Dwight Kraich ~ Autobiography
Born in Akron, Colorado and spent my youth and much of young adult life
in the area. Now make my home in Poway, CA which is just a short drive north of San Diego where I have lived
with my wife and daughters for the past 35 years.
Graduated from University of Denver with a B.S.B.A. in 1980 with
a focus in Marketing and later received an MBA from University of California, San Marcos in 1997. Spent the majority of my
work life in the Pharmaceutical industry following
a few brief stints in retail management immediately following graduation
from college. Recently retired from industry,
I now spend most of my days out in the workshop pursuing my
latest endeavor in life as a professional woodturner.
Growing up on a ranch in Colorado, woodworking was more a necessity
than anything else. However, over the years I
have enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and have made everything from
small wooden gifts to skateboards to custom
cabinets, furniture, and more.
I first became intrigued with woodturning in
late 2005. I enrolled in a few local classes and have been on this fantastic adventure ever sense. I enjoy all
forms of turning wood from functional pieces like bowls and peppermills to more
embellished art pieces. I started DK's
Wooden Expressions and am currently selling my pieces in a variety of venues.
My work can currently be found in Studio 38, Art
In Wood in the Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park located in San Diego, CA. I have a private studio on
site at my workshop location, and I participate in 3 very large juried Art Shows in Southern California and Colorado each year.
September
2018 I am scheduled to conduct my first Peppermill demonstration and class for our local San Diego Woodturning Chapter.
I
am a member of the American Association of Woodturners, the San Diego Woodturners Association, the International
Association
of Penturners, and the Spanish Village Art Center Guild in San Diego.
